Aswan to Wadi Halfa and no return.........well not for us thanks

Today has been a bit of an adventure, we managed to get up nice and early to finish off proceedings before heading to the ferry. First we had to make our way over to the Traffic Police to hand in our Egyptian driving licence and number plates, then head over to the port via police escort as we would not be allowed to ride on the road normally without the Arabic number plates.

Well, had that happened, you would not be reading this blog today, no, instead they decided to hassle us and tell us that we had to hand back 2 number plates even though we only received one at the port of entry in Alexandria. This meant, as you may have guessed, that we had to go back to the tourist police, who in turn sent us to the normal police, who in turn sent us back to the tourist police to get a letter saying that we only had one plate to return, we had to say that we received 2 plates but all three bikes lost 1 plate each and that we blamed no-one for this, what a joke. We also had to get this statement translated and then taken back to the tourist police before receiving an official notice that we could take back to the traffic office so we could head to the ferry.

That's not the end of it, as we later figured out that the guys helping us to sort out the number plates, ran off with our refund. I must say though that i really enjoyed Egypt, just not the getting in and leaving parts, too much bureaucracy.

Well other than that the day went well and the bikes were loaded on the boat before we sailed off for Sudan, and that's another story I will let Delilah tell tomorrow.
