Uganda, the jewel of Africa

miles of trucks waiting to cross the border

Leaving Kenya on the 1st November we reached the border of Uganda just before 5pm to a site to be seen, 5km of trucks, cueing to cross the border into Uganda, glad we were on bikes and able to pass on by. The crossing was fairly painless, except for all the 'helpers' trying to get you through without hassles and selling you money at a 'good rate'. We also found out we had to pay 80000 Ugandan shillings (about $35) for 3rd party insurance, which covers us in the next few countries as well, rip-off. Africa will be Africa. By the time we finished and having waited for a really heavy shower to pass, the sun had set and we headed for the only place we could find on the satnav, Rock Classic hotel, not amazing but better than nothing in such miserable weather.

camp wherever you like
This morning we decided to continue our journey to a campsite we have been eyeing since being in London, called Adrift in Jinja, close to Kampala. We arrived just in time to miss one of the heaviest rainstorms I have seen in years, the tent stood up to this with no issues, really good to know as it is meant to storm for the whole of the next week. Most of the evening was actually spent in the open air cliffside bar, really relaxing. Tomorrow we hope to sort out our visits with our Compassion sponsor kids and get in a day of white river rafting on the Blue Nile prior to it being dammed up early next year, I cant wait.
